Lehmann-UMT GmbH

The history of Lehmann GmbH begins in June 1945 with the establishment of a repair and craft business in Pöhler Hammer by Heinz Lehmann. Using the simplest means, metal goods for everyday needs were produced and repaired. With the expansion of the product range for Carl Zeiss Jena, a new segment developed with clamping tools for the optical industry, extending to the construction of drives for observatory domes. The construction of the Pöhl dam made relocation necessary in 1958. A conscious decision was made to move to nearby Jocketa, where many Pöhler employees also relocated. The Lehmann family also wanted to remain in the heart of Vogtland. In 1972, the next generation of the family, Thilo Lehmann, joined the business. Shortly thereafter, "VEB Carl Zeiss" became a partner, leading to partial nationalization. In 1975, Heinz Lehmann was accused of favoring West German companies and was imprisoned for 9 months. Gradually, all "Lehmanns" were removed from the company. It was not until 1977 that the founder of the company was fully rehabilitated. Following German reunification, Heinz and Thilo Lehmann were able to reprivatize the company on June 16, 1990. In the late 1990s, Markus and Titus Lehmann, the third generation of the family, entered the metal processing industry. Markus Lehmann became the production manager in the family business, while Titus Lehmann founded his own company and began manufacturing and distributing stainless steel grills. Over the years, Titus Lehmann continuously developed the portfolio of his company – Lehmann-UMT GmbH – initially expanding services in sheet metal processing, followed by the addition of products in filter and conveyor technology. Today, other components of the company profile include engineering, 3D design, and special machine construction. Due to the amendment of the EEG in 2014, Lehmann Maschinenbau GmbH, led by Thilo Lehmann, faced economic difficulties. Therefore, Titus Lehmann decided to purchase the production facility in Jocketa, allowing environmental technology to further complement the product range of Lehmann-UMT. Since the end of 2014, the company has operated in a lean structure, with 100 employees from two businesses coming together to form a strong team.
