- Measurement uncertainty — the stated uncertainty must be small enough for your tolerance. A cheap certificate with an uncertainty close to your specification limit tells you nothing useful.
- Turnaround and logistics — who collects, who returns, and how many days the instrument is gone. For a production gauge, three days versus three weeks matters more than the price.
- Recall and records — whether they track due dates, remind you, and provide certificates in a form your quality system can file. Managing a hundred certificates by hand is its own annual cost.
