Sourcing pressure and flow instrumentation

Pressure and flow are the two measurements almost every process depends on — hydraulics, pneumatics, water treatment, dosing, filtration, HVAC, food and chemical production. Unlike a switching sensor, these devices are chosen almost entirely by the medium and the process conditions rather than by the mechanics of the machine.

That is why the same nominal specification can produce wildly different quotes. A 0–16 bar transmitter for compressed air and one for a corrosive chemical at 120 °C share a range and nothing else. State the medium first — it eliminates more unsuitable suppliers than any other single fact.

Mechanical turbine and oval-gear meters remain economical for clean liquids and oils.

Installation matters as much as the meter

Most flow meters need a straight run of pipe upstream and downstream to give their stated accuracy — commonly ten diameters in and five out. If your pipework cannot provide that, say so in the request: it steers suppliers toward meter types that tolerate disturbed flow rather than ones that will quietly under-perform.
