Where to source palletizing systems: FlowMarket is a B2B sourcing network powered by an AI agent. You describe the job — pack type, dimensions and weight, throughput, pallet size and stacking pattern, stack height, the floor space and ceiling height available, gripper requirements and safety expectations — and the AI agent matches you with verified palletizer manufacturers and system integrators, then requests specifications, prices and lead times from every match at once. Getting matched is free for buyers.
Sourcing palletizing systems
Palletizing is the point where a production line meets the warehouse, and it is usually the last thing automated and the first thing to become a bottleneck. It is also one of the few areas where the machine is genuinely shaped by the building: floor space, ceiling height and how pallets arrive and leave constrain the options before any performance figure does.
The other decisive factor is what is being stacked. A case, a sack, a crate and a bundle of shrink-wrapped bottles each demand a different gripper, and the gripper more than anything else determines whether a system runs reliably.
System types
Robotic palletizing
An articulated arm or a dedicated four-axis palletizing robot picks packs and places them to a programmed pattern. Flexible — new patterns are a software change, and one robot can often serve two lines — with a footprint measured in square metres. The default choice for medium throughput and for operations running many SKUs, since changeover is a recipe selection rather than mechanical work.
Layer palletizing
Packs are accumulated and oriented into a complete layer, then transferred to the pallet in one movement. Mechanically more involved and less flexible on pattern, but far faster at high, stable volumes — which is why it dominates beverage, canning and other high-speed lines. Available in low-level and high-level infeed versions depending on how product arrives.
Collaborative, depalletizing and wrapping
- Cobot palletizers — lower speed, often no fencing after risk assessment; suit low volume and tight spaces.
- Depalletizers — the reverse operation, feeding empty containers or incoming goods into a line.
- Pallet handling — dispensers, conveyors, turntables and slip-sheet placement.
- Stretch wrappers & strapping — stabilise the finished load before it ships.
What to specify when sourcing
These details decide both the system and the price:
- The pack — case, sack, crate, tray, bundle or drum, with dimensions and weight.
- Pack stability — whether it is rigid, flexible, sealed, dusty or prone to sagging.
- Rate — packs per minute and, for layer systems, layers per minute; state peak and average.
- Pallet — size (EUR 1200×800, industrial 1200×1000, GMA), quality and whether pallets are exchanged.
- Pattern & height — stacking pattern, layers per pallet, total stack height and any overhang limits.
- SKUs & changeover — how many products and patterns, and how often they change.
- Space — floor area available, ceiling height, and where pallets enter and leave.
- Gripper — vacuum, clamp, fork, bag or combination; driven by the pack type.
- Safety — fencing, light curtains or scanners, and the required performance level to ISO 13849.
- Integration — upstream conveyor, labelling, stretch wrapper, forklift or AGV pick-up, and line controls.
The gripper and the safety scope decide the quote
Two things separate a palletizing quote that holds from one that grows after the order, and neither is throughput. The first is the gripper. A vacuum head that handles sealed cases beautifully will not lift a porous sack or a shrink-wrapped bundle with perforations; a clamp gripper that handles sacks may crush a light carton. If you run more than one pack type, say so explicitly, because a combination gripper — or a tool change — is a design decision rather than an option to add later. Send pack dimensions, weights and, where possible, samples. The second is safety. A palletizing cell is a moving robot near people and pallet trucks, so it needs a guarding concept: fencing with interlocked gates, light curtains or scanners at the pallet exit, and a validated performance level under ISO 13849. That scope varies enormously between quotes, and a supplier who has assumed you will supply the fencing will look cheaper than one who included it. Ask each supplier to state exactly what safety equipment, risk assessment and CE documentation for the completed cell is inside their price — comparing on that basis usually reorders the list.
